DAP legal bureau chairman Gobind Singh Deo has taken aim at Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi over the latter’s silence on the Malacca protection racket investigation, which saw police arrested for corruption more than two months ago.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission had arrested 12 suspects, including the Melaka Tengah and Jasin police chiefs, for alleged involvement in the syndicate offering protection to illegal massage parlours and gambling dens.
“I want the home minister to answer why, until today, there is no explanation on such a big case, which involves police officers,” said the DAP lawmaker.
“He needs to answer whether the investigation is ongoing and, secondly, why there is no action taken or announcement made in the case,” he told reporters in Parliament.
He said the matter would be brought up in this session’s Dewan Rakyat sitting.
“We need an assurance that the reports lodged will be investigated. I have asked several times, but there has been no response.”
He said the public must be assured that every report lodged would be investigated.
Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar had previously said a major reshuffle would take place in the police force following the arrests. – August 1, 2017.
