Blast from the past

GERALD Templer, the grandson of Sir Gerald Templer, the famous British high commissioner from 1952 to 1954, will visit Carcosa Seri Negara today at 4pm.

Sir Gerald was the one many attributed to the victory against the communist insurgency using a new approach of winning hearts and minds of local people after he took over in 1952, both as British high commissioner and director of operations when Henry Gurney was assassinated by communists in October 1951.

I do apologise for the last minute notification of Gerald’s visit but he informed us, too, also just now.

Gerald’s tour will be conducted by K.K. Tan, the chief operating officer of Asian Heritage Museum, the tenant of Carcosa Seri Negara.

Gerald’s brother, Ben, and his friend, both young doctors from London, visited Carcosa Seri Negara three months ago. – September 2, 2018.
