THE details of Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s identification card is of public record, Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed said today.

Nur Jazlan said the claims made by Khairuddin Abu Hassan that Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi had violated the Personal Data Protection Act by revealing Dr Mahathir’s information was not true.

“Let the police investigate. Zahid is a minister and the information from the National Registration Department (NRD) is of public record.

“To me this is not an issue,” he told The Malaysian Insight

Khairuddin, who was a former Umno division leader, had lodged a police report at the Dang Wangi police station yesterday against Zahid and the NRD director-general for releasing Dr Mahathir’s personal information.

The NRD is under the purview of the Home Ministry, which Zahid heads.

Khairuddin said Zahid had acted maliciously by exposing Dr Mahathir’s IC, which showed the name “Mahathir a/l Iskandar Kutty”.

Yesterday, Zahid at the Kelana Jaya Umno Division meeting had brought up Dr Mahathir’s ethnicity by showing a copy his IC on his phone.

Khairuddin said Zahid and the NRD had committed an offence under the Personal Data Protection Act, adding that he had abused the personal information for his own personal agenda.

Earlier today, DAP’s Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching had submitted an emergency parliamentary motion, urging Zahid to explain his move to reveal Dr Mahathir’s private data.

Teo said that a response from speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia is expected within the next 24 hours on the matter.

“Zahid had violated the Personal Data Protection Act by revealing what was alleged to be Mahathir’s identity card.

“A minister who does not respect the law is a threat to the public,” she said in her notice of submission.

Teo also said Zahid must apologise and be relieved of his duties as home minister for the police to investigate the incident. – July 31, 2017.
