CLOSE to 3.8 million Malaysians, who are eligible to vote, have yet to register as voters as of March 31, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Azalina Othman Said.
The number according to the Election Commission (EC) were 3.772 million unregistered voters comprising of those aged 21 and residing in Malaysia, and deemed eligible under Article 119 of the federal constitution.
The EC also received 1,454 objections to voter registrations between January and March this year, Azalina said in a parliamentary written reply.
Commenting on temporary MyKad holders, Azalina said they were not eligible to register as a voter as they were not Malaysians.
“Therefore, they are not eligible to register as a voter and do not have the rights to vote at a general election or by-elections.” – July 31, 2017.
