MALAYSIANS can never get closure if past problems are not addressed, PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil told a forum today.

Fahmi, who is also Lembah Pantai MP, said in Malaysia’s case, closure was hard to find as the problems were so immense.

“Closure can only happen if we confront and produce the truth, and from the truth, at least we can reconcile (things),” he said.

Fahmi was replying to former minister in the prime minister’s department Nancy Shukri, who had said that it appeared as if Pakatan Harapan (PH) was unable to move on.

“When you look at the immensity of some of the things that were discovered… closure can’t happen if we ignore things,” he said.

Fahmi and Nancy, who is also Batang Sadong MP, were joined by former Perak menteri besar Zambry Abd Kadir as panelists at a forum entitled “New Malaysia: The Way Ahead” today.

Nancy had derided the PH government for focusing too much on past mistakes.

“The government has to move on… almost each and every MP or minister has pointed a finger at the previous government,” she said.

She said the people would instead prefer to hear about new policies and plans the government had.

“The people want to know: what is it that you want to do?

“If you keep saying ask Najib (Razak), then why are you the government?” she said.

She said that although Malaysians must be fair to the new government and give them time to adjust, placing the blame solely on the previous administration was not constructive.

“It is ok to hear (such grouses once in awhile) but if you hear that every day, (it makes you) think the government needs to move on.

“We cannot afford to listen to the blame game and finger-pointing all the time.” – August 29, 2018.
