MCA has launched the Balakong Declaration, a five-point manifesto, in a bid to revive the party after its worst defeat in history in the 14th general election.

President Liow Tiong Lai said the party wanted to shed its political baggage and start from zero.

“It’s important for people to have faith in political parties. This declaration is our promise that MCA will reform, that MCA is an independent party, and Balakong is the start of the reform.

“The Balakong Declaration marks the rebirth of MCA, a full revamp to seek the people’s support,” he said at the launch in Sg Chua, Kajang, today.

MCA won just one parliamentary and two state seats in the May 9 elections.

Liow said MCA must secure Balakong voters’ support so that the party could serve as a check and balance to the Pakatan Harapan government.

“The Balakong Declaration sets a whole new direction for MCA, to help build a two-party system, to fight for the people’s largest benefit.

“It’s an important step for MCA. We urge Balakong voters to give us a chance. Your support will motivate us to move forward.”

The manifesto’s five points are:

– MCA will review the past and chart its own path in the future – a path for the people;

– MCA will continue to defend the rule of law, promote democracy and freedom, and fight for justice and fairness;

– MCA will uphold transparency, effectiveness and purity;

– MCA will embrace the new political climate, serve as a check and balance effectively and rationally, and use its experience in government towards this end; and,

– MCA will embrace the spirit of a healthy two-party system, and is determined to return to mainstream politics. – August 28, 2018.

  • MCA and all other opposition parties use this phrase so easily... to serve as check & balance to the PH government. What are they bloody hell talkIng about? They had over 60 years to create change, brIng value to the people, create and promote harmony and so forth. But what have they achIeved? For starters, they embarrasingly lost GE14, not only that, MCA lost all seats, exceot for one. Doesnt that tell you how the the party faired. so just leave the Balakong people alone and dont pollute their minds with more mindless talk.. and the president, please go back to Bentong and do a little meditation and have a good life, Sir.
