KHAIRY Jamaluddin today described Rahim Noor’s appointment as a peace talks mediator between Thailand and Muslim rebels in the country as a “black eye” on Malaysia.

The former youth and sports minister said this is in blatant disrespect of Anwar Ibrahim as Rahim was convicted of assaulting the former deputy prime minister during the first sodomy incident.

“He (Rahim) has vast experience handling the communist insurgency, but this appointment is a black eye on Malaysia.

“I may be on the other side, but show some respect to your incoming prime minister. Heartless & despicable. True to Palpatine form,” Khairy posted on Twitter, alluding to the black eye that Rahim had given Anwar when he was in custody.

“Palpatine” is also a reference to a villainous character in the Star Wars movies.

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad will cede power to Anwar in two years’ time according to a pact agreed upon by Pakatan Harapan parties following the 14th general election.

Malaysia is hosting peace talks between the Thai government and rebel group Mara Patani to seek a peaceful resolution to decades of conflict in southern Thailand, near the Malaysian border.

  • I guess it's a matter of merit than feelings? If TDM and DSAI can put aside their past to work together for a better Malaysia, this is a small matter.

  • His appointment and the black eye is two different matters here KJ. The first is referring to his behind the scene dealing during the December 2, 1989 agreement between Malaysia government and CPM in Hat Yai Thailand, while the second is referring to an act of which he has been convicted and serves his time and that you are raising it for political mileage points. On merits his appointment deem fit the bill for these talks.
