MACC raids Sabah Forestry Dept

MALAYSIAN Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy chief commissioner Azam Baki confirmed today that his men in Sabah has raided several locations in the state in connection to its probe into the Sabah Forestry Department.

However Azam said that no one was arrested and refused to divulge more details on the case saying it is still under investigations.

“No one was arrested yesterday and the case is still under probe. There is no detail that I can share,” he told The Malaysian Insight.

It was reported that several senior officers from the forestry department are being probed by authorities.

According to various news report, about 40 MACC officers were involved in the raids, which ended with the seizure of documents to assist in the commission’s investigation into an alleged graft case involving the department.

The raids started about 9.30am at various locations in Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, Tawau and Tambunan.

MACC had seized several documents from a residence of a Sabah Forestry Department senior officer located in Sandakan.

The New Straits Times reported that the seized files included financial documents of a company which has secured a project from the department.

The investigation is being carried out under Section 4 of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, Anti-Terrorism Financing Act and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act. – August 21, 2018.
