POLICE are looking for three other suspects in relation to the death threats issued against lawyer and activist Siti Kasim, said the Sentul district police chief ACP Munusamy Ragasamy.
Police had arrested a man on Tuesday night, who was today released on police bail.
“We are now looking for three others,” said Munusamy without giving details.
Police are also working with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to identify those who had made the death threats in a Facebook thread.
Some of them called for her to be beheaded while others threatened to splash acid on her.
Siti, a strong advocate for minorities and outspoken critic of religious extremism, told The Malaysian Insight that this was not the first time she had received death threats.
“But it is different this time as there is a person inciting others to kill me.
“This guy (the one out on bail) is urging people to kill me and seem to be planning it. This is the difference here,” she said.
She did not know the suspect was released today but said this is a good opportunity for police to redeem themselves.
“You know how usually people say that these people are arrested and then released, and then nothing happens.
“I hope the police will charge him, if the police don’t charge him, then there is a serious question why, because the evidence is clear and straightforward.
“This is not a lawless country, so action must be taken against people like this,” Siti added.
The case is being investigated for criminal intimidation and for improper use of network facilities or network service. β July 28, 2017.
