PAS is ready to help MCA in the Balakong by-election as the Barisan Nasional component had never attacked the Islamist party on the issue of hudud, said party president Abdul Hadi Awang.

The Marang MP said the Chinese party was unlike DAP, which had “disrespected PAS” when the two parties were in the now-defunct Pakatan Rakyat coalition.

“Yes, we will help MCA in Balakong in the spirit of the opposition,” he told reporters after a PAS event n Shah Alam, Selangor.

“Both MCA and DAP are against hudud but DAP has opposed hudud since we were in Pakatan Rakyat… they didn’t respect and even attacked us despite our being in the same coalition.

“MCA was not part of the coalition; they said they didn’t agree but they didn’t attack us, unlike DAP. That’s the difference,” he said, adding that the issue of cooperation with other opposition parties needs to be further explained to the voters.

Last week, Hadi urged PAS supporters to vote for MCA candidate in the by-election as the Chinese party was now also in the opposition bloc.

The Balakong by-election on September 8 will see a straight fight between PH’s Wong Siew Ki of DAP, and MCA’s Tan Chee Teong. MCA will be using its own logo in the by-election instead of the BN “dacing” symbol.

The state seat fell vacant following the death of its assemblyman Eddie Ng Tien Chee in a road accident on July 20.

On the Seri Setia by-election, also on September 8, Hadi said he believed the cooperation between Umno and PAS would further improve.

“Sungai Kandis (by-election) was a positive start and Seri Setia will see further improvement; this can be seen from the presence of Umno leaders on nomination day,” he said.

Umno under former president Najib Razak had been at its friendliest ever with PAS. Umno also said the party would “repay” PAS in Seri Setia for the support it received from the latter in the August 4 Sungai Kandis by-election.

PAS did not contest the Sungai Kandis seat to avoid a three-cornered fight.

In Seri Setia, PAS’ Dr Halimah Ali will take on PH/PKR candidate Halimey Abu Bakar. The state seat became vacant with the death of assemblyman and Selangor executive councillor Prof Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin (PKR) from cancer on August 2. – August 19, 2018.

  • If PAS had remained in PR, they would be in the government today with a bigger say for their electorate. Under Hadi, they made one blunder after another, colluding with Umno which has in the past deceived them. If MCA has any sense at all, they would keep as far away from PAS as possible, at least until PAS is smart or brave enough to dump Hadi.

Well, Hadi, respect is earned and has nothing to do with being on the same side. DAP stood their ground on principles whereas MCA stood behind closed doors. Can you not see why Malaysians trust DAP more than the mosquitoes, even the religious ones?

  • Splitting hairs. If a kafir party opposes Hudud can Muslims still support that party? Hadi should check with his poster boy Zakir Naik.

  • Hadi is delusional now in this wayward thinking that he is in position to determine the direction of Malaysian politics. PAS capabilities will be as far as Kelantan and Trengganu. PAS will find it difficult to make inroads into the western coastal and the southern states. Both the two states they are in control do not have the dynamism capabilities to bolster up their financial strength in allowing them to retain their hold, let alone the thoughts of making further inroads to capture the rest of the other states. States economic activities are not driven by simple prayers of request to be endowed by Almighty. Enforcing religious obligations to warrant attraction are just a farce that they have been selling where primarily and realistically ,only when every basic needs of neccesities are satisfied and exceeded, more so especially when on a full stomach will ensure a devoted and a passionate prayers. Loyalty and support will comes forth. Even the promises of the oil royaty in hand depends on the mutual undertsanding and how PAS will portray themselves on their behaviour and the accomodating nature but again sometimes things just do not work out as expected when Murphy is purposely let out. With PH administration of capable and highly educated leaders PAS may find it hard to strike the same note and could be in less favourable position as opposition. Hadi should start eating humble pie and begin the process of toning down as his demeanour are not in the good books of the old fox.

  • It baffles me. PAS members must surely be reading the nonsense Hadi is spewing. And they still let this guy be their head honcho? Hadi must have one heckuva charming personality, to enable pas folks to overlook his warts
