PAKATAN Harapan must be careful not to violate election laws in the Balakong and Seri Setia by-elections as it did in Sungai Kandis, president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said.
The ruling coalition must ensure that it abided by the rules and ran a clean and fair campaign for both the Selangor state seats, said Dr Wan Azizah who is the deputy prime minister.
“We take to heart Bersih’s reprimand because we are serious about following the rules. We must ensure that our by-election campaigns are free and fair,” she said after attending a book launch in
Kuala Lumpur today.
Dr Wan Azizah was responding to electoral reform group Bersih 2.0 which yesterday said both PH and Barisan Nasional had violated election rules in the recent Sungai Kandis by-election.
Among the violations were abuse of state government assets and programmes, and handing out of goodies to influence voters.
The Balakong and Seri Setia by-elections will be held on September 8. The two seats won by PH in the 14th general election fell vacant following the deaths of the assemblymen.
DAP is fielding Subang Jaya councillor Wong Siew Ki in Balakong against MCA Cheras Batu 11 Youth chief Tan Chee Tiong.
In Seri Setia, PKR’s Halimey Abu Bakar is up against former PAS Selangor exco Dr Halimah Ali. – August 19, 2018.
