PAKATAN Harapan will continue to solve issues in the country despite inheriting a nation which was terribly damaged by the previous administration, said Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The prime minister said the damage was much worse than what was anticipated by PH.

“All government departments were instigated and used by them to do their party works and not to administer the country.

“Their (BN) debt amounted to a trillion ringgit, a figure which we have never heard before.

“But with arrogance, they claimed not to have done any damage. With no shame, they admitted that the millions of ringgit money that was confiscated was for their party. How can they have so much money and not explain it?,” he said on RTM1 tonight while delivering a speech to commemorate PH’s 100 days in power.

The ruling coalition’s chairman also said that the PH government has now ended the philosophy that “cash is king”, a trait which Dr Mahathir had attacked former prime minister Najib Razak of using to buy support.

“Cash is only king when you own a huge amount. For political parties to get such a lot of money, there is no other way but to steal.

“The huge burden left by the former government is debts of a trillion ringgit. We can go bankrupt by just paying the interest. What’s more with paying the principal debt?

“If we want to talk about the previous government’s mistake, it’s will take days. Therefore, we will focus on the acts of fulfilling the promises in our manifesto,” he said.

Dr Mahathir said that one of their promises that was fulfilled was eliminating the goods and services tax and bringing back the sales and service tax (SST).

“But to bring back the SST requires approval by Parliament. The process takes time.

“While SST is waiting for Parliament’s approval, the tax cannot be collected. Hence the price of cars and others things will decrease and the people can still enjoy the discounts.”

Dr Mahathir also said that other promises that have been fulfilled included maintaining the petrol prices, but not for RON97 as it is rarely used.

“The Employees’ Provident Fund scheme for housewives has begun on August 15. Detailed studies of mega projects awarded to foreign countries have been initiated.

“High Speed Rail project has been suspended on May 30 and the Mass Rapid Transit Phase 3 cancelled on May 30.

“The East Coast Rail Link railway project has been suspended on June 3 and the Multi Product Product Pipeline and Trans Sabah Gas Pipeline have been postponed on July 5.”

Dr Mahathir added PH has also started levelling the minimum wage across the country, with the whole process of raising it within five years has begun.

They have also introduced the Health Care Scheme by providing RM500 funding for basic treatment at registered private clinics for the B40 group, which the cabinet memorandum on this matter being prepared.

Dr Mahathir also said that the royal commission of inquiries on 1Malaysia Development Berhad, Felda, MARA and Tabung Haji have not been implemented as the investigations of various agencies is underway and the court will determine the decision of the cases.

“The Special Cabinet Committee to promptly review and implement the Malaysia Agreement 1963 has been agreed upon and will be established.

“Abolishing the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loan defaulters who are blacklisted has started on May 24 to June 8, 2018 involving 429,945 borrowers.

He said that the government have also come up with three mechanisms to eliminate the unnecessary debts forced on Felda settlers.

Dr Mahathir said that another issue that has been resolved within 100 days was the promise to solve the problem of stateless Malaysians.

“For Indians, nearly 3,500 people will be given a blue identity card.” – August 17, 2018.
