PAKATAN HARAPAN has named former Petaling Jaya City councillor Halimey Abu Bakar of PKR as its candidate for the Seri Setia state by-election to be held on September 8.

He will be standing under the Pakatan Harapan logo which is making its first appearance in an election.

PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail presented the candidate at Desa Mentari this evening. She also launched the by-election machinery.

“We did not expect this by-election so soon after the last general election but we will have to face it.

“I urge everyone to come out and vote for us in this by-election,” she said.

Halimey, 46, a member of PKR since 1998, is active in the Youth wing. He was the Selangor PKR Youth chief from 2006 to 2009. He was PKR Kelana Jaya information chief in 2015, and had made significant contributions as a local councillor while at the Petaling Jaya City Council.

Yesterday PAS named Dr Halimah Ali as the party’s candidate for the by-election. Halimah is the former Selat Klang assemblyman. She was also an exco member in the Selangor state government after the 2008 general election.

Barisan Nasional is sitting out of the by-election to give PAS a better chance of winning the seat.

The Seri Setia state seat in Selangor fell vacant following the death of assemblyman Shaharuddin Badaruddin, of PKR, from colon cancer on Aug 2.

The Seri Setia and Balakong by-elections will be held on the same day. EC deputy chairman Othman Mahmood said the campaign period for both by-elections will stretch for 21 days. Nomination day is August 18. – August 16, 2018.
