INSPECTOR-GENERAL of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun is in the dark over the status of Sarawak Report editor and founder Clare Rewcastle Brown.

A warrant of arrest was previously issued on her for purportedly carrying out activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy.

She is also wanted for allegedly publishing false reports that could threaten public order.

Today, Fuzi said he needs to check the status of the investigations first before commenting further.

“We have to check the status. I can’t comment more on her warrant of arrest,” Fuzi said.

In 2015, former Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Mohmad Salleh said Rewcastle Brown will be charged with offences under Section 134B and 124I of the Penal Code.

“We will proceed with the applications to place her on the AseanPol wanted list as well as the Interpol red notice,” he said.

However, after Barisan Nasional’s defeat in the 14th general election, Rewcastle Brown has been in and out of Malaysia several times.

The latest was last week where she attended a court case involving a gag order sought by former prime minister Najib Razak after he was charged with seven counts in relation to SRC International.

Last May, she told a news portal in Kuala Lumpur that she had spoken to a few friends who had assured her that the charges are being dropped.

There has yet to be an official statement from the Pakatan Harapan government on Rewcastle Brown’s persona non grata status. – August 14, 2018

  • She is a whistleblower and the present Government and enforcement authorities should be thankful to Claire for revealing so many illegal and corrupted activities by the previous administration!
She should be removed form the Interpol and all so-called charges her, dropped! Why isnt the current administration doing anything about this? As far as I can see, she was responsible for the betterment and change in government today.

  • As far as I remember Interpol rejected the application so that is void. Its only the local police who need to cancel the warrant as a) she didnt endanger anyone but Najib b) she told the truth so second charge doesnt stand either.

  • In the first place, the charges are frivolous since she is reporting news. The government then could have sue her for libel or reply to her articles by asking for the right to reply on Sarawak Report. Instead, they resorted to charging her under a vague law about her action being detrimental to parliamentary democracy (one should laugh since media is supposed to be one of the pillars of democracy). So please drop this warrant of arrest. She has done a lot for this country by exposing the corrupt practices in this country.
