NO one from Umno has lodged a police report to claim the RM3.5 million allegedly taken by security personnel guarding the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on the night of the May 9 general election.
Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said his men were not involved in the case.
“So far, we have received nothing from Umno. Nobody has lodged a police report seeking to claim the money.
“My men were not involved in the case. Some of those detained were auxiliary police,” he said, adding that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission is investigating the matter, and not police.
Former prime minister Najib Razak previously said the money belonged to Umno.
MACC will question Najib, who is also former Umno president, over his claim.
“We plan to call up the former prime minister,” said MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Azam Baki recently.
He confirmed that MACC had seized RM1.19 million in its probe into the alleged misappropriation of funds, said to be for use in the 14th general election.
The commission has also seized two cars – a Subaru Impreza and a Toyota Vios – as well as a Honda motorcycle.
Two days ago, MACC detained officers and security guards of the Prime Minister’s Department for allegedly misusing the RM3.5 million.
On August 8, 17 security personnel were remanded for five days over the “missing” millions, believed to be Barisan Nasional campaign funds. They have been released on bail.
They are alleged to have cleared the money out of PMO upon learning that BN was set to lose GE14.
Najib has demanded that the RM3.5 million, along with the RM114 million seized by police last month in raids on premises linked to him, be returned to Umno. – August 14, 2018.
