ALMOST half a million was spent to remove 1Malaysia and 1Negaraku Malaysia logos from public amenities, said Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng.

He said both logos were removed from 21 urban transformation centres (UTC), which cost the government RM18,491 for each logo.

“There were 25 1Malaysia and 1Negaraku Malaysia logos removed from 21 UTCs around the country. On average, the cost for the logo removal was RM18,491 for each logo,” Lim said in a written reply.

Lim said several other UTCs were relieved of the logos when they underwent renovation, which ended on May 31 this year.

The DAP secretary-general also said the logo removal only involved only UTCs and no other public amenities.

Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa had asked Lim how much Putrajaya spent on removing the logos and what the rationale behind the hasty removal was.

Former prime minister Najib Razak introduced the 1Malaysia concept in 2010 to promote harmony, national unity and good governance.

The programme took flak as the various efforts he introduced, such as Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia (KR1M) and 1Malaysia clinics, failed.

The 1Malaysia programmes were also said to have benefited Najib’s cronies and not the people. – August 13, 2018.
