No need to take action against anti-LGBT doctor, says UM dean

THERE is no need to take action against Dr Nur Ilyani Mohamed Nawawi for expressing disdain towards the LGBT community, said the Malaysian AIDS Foundation chairman.

Dr Adeeba Kamarulzaman, who is also the dean of Universiti Malaya’s Faculty of Medicine, said her recent rebuke of Dr Nur Ilyani was a gentle reminder.

  • Dato Dr Adeeba is right in reminding Dr Nur of the responsibilities as a medical professional rather than indulge in personal beliefs.
    Dr Nur should be guided in the right path, after all she had taken the Hippocratic Oath..

  • A doctor should be always learning and updating their knowledge. This lady hasnt researched her facts but has reiterated outdated and discredited information. The Medical Board should ensure doctors attend regular further training by accredited and respected experts.
