THE superyacht purportedly belonging to businessman Low Taek Jho is expected to dock at the Terminal Boustead Cruise Centre in Port Klang at 12pm today.
A police source told The Malaysian Insight that authorities believe the yacht, Equanimity, is now passing by Port Dickson and is expecting to dock by noon.
Reporters and photographers have been gathering at the terminal since 9am.
Bukit Aman Special Branch director Abdul Hamid Bador was spotted entering the terminal at 10.30am.
A source said investigators from the high court, 1MDB Task Force and the Attorney-General’s Chambers will inspect the US$250 million (RM1.03 billion) yacht as soon as it arrives.
Equanimity was seized in Bali in February at the request of American authorities as part of a multi-billion-dollar corruption investigation launched by the Department of Justice (DoJ) into 1Malaysia Development Bhd.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad thanked the Indonesian government for its cooperation in handing over the superyacht.
In a video posted on Facebook, Dr Mahathir also urged those who wanted to claim the vessel to submit proof of purchase.
“I am happy that the Indonesian government has agreed to hand the yacht to Malaysia. I thank the Indonesian government and its president, Joko Widodo, for the strong cooperation,” he said.
The yacht was allegedly bought using 1MDB funds belonging to Malaysian taxpayers, the prime minister said. – August 7, 2018.
