ANWAR Ibrahim’s uncontested unofficial victory in the election for PKR’s presidency shows the undivided support party members have for him in leading the biggest bloc in Pakatan Harapan, said Mohamad Azmin Ali.

The incumbent deputy president said Anwar’s leadership was important for both PKR and Pakatan Harapan.

“I’m happy because he now has undivided support to lead the party, proven by yesterday’s nomination.

“It shows other party members want to see Anwar Ibrahim play an important role in leading the party as the biggest bloc in Pakatan Harapan today,” Azmin said at Parliament’s lobby today.

At the close of party nominations yesterday, Anwar was the sole candidate for the party’s highest executive position.

This is the first time Anwar has assumed an elected post in the party.

Anwar will replace his wife, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who has been president of the party since its inception.

Azmin has decided to defend his deputy president’s post, going up against outgoing vice-president Rafizi Ramli.

“I leave it to the wisdom of our members,” he said when asked about his decision to defend his post.

Azmin became the PKR deputy president in 2010, replacing Syed Husin Ali. – August 6, 2018.
