PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil today dismissed claims that he was aligned with any camp in the party, saying he would only follow party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.

Fahmi said he was not running under any “team” in the coming party polls.

PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli had announced that he would challenge deputy president Azmin Ali for the party’s No. 2 spot. Last week, Rafizi announced his team of party leaders, which did include Fahmi.

“I’m not with any camp. I’m with Anwar’s camp, if there are any camps,  but Anwar has no camp, so I will just follow the president,” he told reporters today before submitting his nomination papers to contest as a candidate for PKR’s central committee.

Fahmi downplayed rumours of a rift in PKR, saying it was normal for family members to have small misunderstandings.

“We are all friends and what’s important is that we are a big family.

“In any family, there will be misunderstanding or tension from time to time, but we try our best to resolve them because the people of Malaysia are watching how PKR is handling its party elections,” he said.

Fahmi also submitted Nurul Izzah Anwar’s nomination papers. Nurul Izzah will be defending her vice-president post.

Nurul Izzah is also one of the leaders in Rafizi’s “Reformasi 20 tahun” team.

Rafizi recently unveiled his line-up, which includes William Leong (Selayang MP), Johari Abdul (Sungai Petani MP), and S Kesavan (Sungai Siput MP) for vice-president posts.

The Wanita chief post will be contested by Fuziah Salleh, who is also deputy minister in the prime minister’s department and Kuantan MP, while Batu Tiga assemblyman Rodziah Ismail will be vying to be her deputy.

Johor Baru MP Akmal Nasir is running for the Youth chief post.

Party elections are from September 14 to October 7, and will see 800,000 members voting in stages through an electronic polling system. – August 5, 2018.
