FORMER PKR vice-president Fuziah Salleh is vying for the Wanita chief post in a bid she said is to revive the spirit of struggle and idealism that she had built when she led the post from 2007 to 2010.
The deputy minister in the prime minister’s department submitted her nomination form with Rodziah Ismail, who is going for the Wanita deputy chief post, at PKR’s Petaling Jaya headquarters at 11am today with their supporters.
Incumbent PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamarudin, who is the housing and local government minister, is not defending the post.
Fuziah said the Wanita wing has not been vocal enough to provide a check and balance for the party’s top leadership.
“Now (the women) cannot question, cannot say no. We should not need to be afraid of criticising our leaders. We must be vocal and not just be yes-men (pak turut).
“The women today lack these characteristics. I want to rebuild the women,” said the former Wanita chief.
Rodziah, a three-term Selangor executive councillor and Batu Tiga assemblyman, wants to help Fuziah strengthen the party’s reformist agenda.
“We hope for a new coalition. We will build the party together and I invite women to return to strengthen our party and make the best of this opportunity,” she said. – August 5, 2018.
