Zawawi increases lead in unofficial count in Sg Kandis

PKR’S Zawawi Ahmad Mughni is leading the Sg Kandis by-election race by more than 5,200 votes, according to unofficial results from Pakatan Harapan-linked think-tank, Institut Darul Ehsan (IDE).

According to IDE, as at 7.52pm, Zawawi had 13, 315 votes to Barisan Nasional’s Lokman Noor Adam’s 8,024 votes while independent candidate K. Murthy only garnered 90 votes.

A total of 21,421 votes have been counted so far.

The tallying of votes is being carried out at Dewan Besar Tanjung of the Shah Alam City Council in Section 19 and the official results are expected to be announced by 10pm.

Zawawi arrived at the hall at around 8.25pm.

As at 4pm, voter turnout stood at 45%.

The Election Commission had earlier expected voter turnout to be 80%.

A total of 51,217 normal voters, or 99.97%, were eligible to vote today while 13 were absent voters.

At the tallying centre, ballot boxes begun arriving about 6.45pm.

This is the first by-election following the general election on May 9. The seat fell vacant after assemblyman Shuhaimie Shafiei died on July 2.

The returning officer for the Sg Kandis by-election is Shah Alam Mayor Ahmad Zaharin Mohd Saad. – August 4, 2018.

  • Confirms that the Rakyat is not accepting UMNO and PAS race and religion-based politics. Hopefully this will put one more nail in UMNOs coffin.
