BROADCAST journalist Yunna Tan has confirmed that DAP leaders had approached her regarding the vacant Balakong state assembly seat in Selangor.

Tan however said several names will be considered as candidates and decisions are yet to be made.

“It is true that I have been approached by the DAP leaders to consider becoming a potential candidate.

“I’ve been made to understand that there will be a list of 5-6 names summited for the DAP CEC (Central Executive Committee) Candidate Selection Committee for their consideration. As far as I am aware there has been no decisions made,” Tan said on her Facebook.

Tan who has been a broadcast journalist for more than 9 years said she was honoured to be considered for the seat.

“The responsibilities and commitment of a state elected representative are heavy and entail a high degree of sacrifice.

“Regardless of whether I’m ultimately selected as a candidate, I will give my full support to the party in its fight to serve the people,” she said.

She added she will play her part to “build a new Malaysia” as she has experienced various events during her tenure as a journalist.

Tan last week resigned her job at Astro AEC, where she hosts the prime-time Chinese current affairs programmes Evening Edition and Prime Talk.

Selangor DAP secretary Ean Yong Hian Wah did not deny that Tan was a frontrunner for the seat, which fell vacant following the death of Eddie Ng on July 20, in a road accident.

Nomination day for Balakong is on August 18. Polling will take place on September 8. – August 4, 2018.
