LOW voter turnout for the Sg Kandis by-election has prompted the government to dispatch two information trucks to encourage voters to come out to vote.

At noon, two Information Department four-wheel-drive vehicles were seen going around neighbourhoods in Bandar Puteri Klang, Sri Andalas 1-3, Sg Jati, Jalan Kota Raja and SR Agama Jalan Kebun playing messages persuading residents to vote.

According to the Election Commission, voter turnout as at 4pm was only around 40%.

During the 14th general election in Sg Kandis, some 85.79%, or 43,585 out of 50,800 voters, had cast their ballots in the four-corner contest on May 9.

In GE14, PKR’s Shuhaimie Shafiei won 23,998 votes to Barisan Nasional’s Kamaruzzaman Johari (11,518), PAS’ Yusof Abdullah (7,573) and Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s Hanafiah Husin (76).

Today’s by-election comes after Shuhaimie died on July 2. The contest is between PKR’s Zawawi Ahmad Mughni, BN’s Lokman Adam with independent K. Murthy, who has not shown up since nomination day on July 21. – August 4, 2018.
