LEADERS from opposition party Barisan Nasional who use Taman Rimba Kiara also support the Pakatan Harapan government’s move to preserve and protect the park from further developments, said Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh.

Yeoh said preservation of the land was a huge election promise, and many Pakatan Harapan leaders had also attended protests in support of the move to save the park from development.

“Even the BN politicians who use this park support us. There are many who want to see Taman Rimba Kiara preserved as a park,” she said at a picnic at the park with locals today.

She also urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to give updates on its investigation of the police report lodged against former federal territories minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

On May 16, Yeoh lodged a report with MACC against landowner Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan, chaired by Tengku Adnan, over the proposed development of a condominium in the park.

“I want to know the status. MACC, don’t just focus investigations on 1MDB.

“There are other transactions from the past that are very important, especially for the federal territories,” said the deputy women, community, and family development minister.

Yeoh said everyone was waiting for MACC to take action over the matter and keep them updated on the status.

“We can’t just pretend time will pass and nobody will remember,”she said, adding that she is constantly reminded of the report as Tengku Adnan sits opposite her on the other side of the Dewan Rakyat.

The project involves the building of eight blocks of 42- and 52-storey high-end service apartments and a 30-storey block of affordable housing.

Yeoh stressed that the government was not against building affordable housing for the poor, but it should not be at the expense of giving up the park.

“We are not against development but you can’t use the park in the name of giving housing.

“If you want to do housing, do it at the current site, where the longhouses are,” she added.

Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad recently said the ministry will review the contract for a high-rise development at the park. – August 4, 2018.
