TINDING Lambang, 52, of Kampung Remun, Serian, is the fifth person to die of rabies in Sarawak.
He died at 10.30pm today at the Sarawak General Hospital.
According to the Borneo Post, he was bitten by a dog in early May. He was warded in the SGH on July 11 after evincing symptoms of weak limbs, numbness, backache, and confusion.
Lab tests confirm that he was infected with the rabies encephalomyelitis virus.
Prior to this, the dead rabies victims had all been of age seven and below.
The last to die of the disease was Florencia Edward, 7, of Kampung Ampungan in Serian, on July 17
Yesterday, the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee declared two more areas to be rabies infected, bringing the total of rabies-infected areas in the state to 20.
In Serian, these areas are Kampung Krait, Kampung Paon Rimu, Kampung Paon Rimu Bakung, Kampung Remun, Kampung Lebor, Kampung Saroban, Kampung Tangga, Kampung Ampungan, Kampung Mentong Berawan, Kampung Mentong Silaga, Kampung Engkabang, Kampung Tampek Sumpas, Kampung Rasau, Siburan Bazaar, Serian Town, and Mile 45, Kuching-Sri Aman Road; in Tebedu, Kampung Temong Mura and Kampung Entubuh; in Sri Aman, Rumah Janta Punggu Mawang; and in Kuching, Mile 5, Jalan Semeba. β July 23, 2017.
