Lim Wee Chai's appointment to UM board not political

AN article in The Malaysian Insight titled Universiti Malaya axes 3 directors from board published on 31 July 2018, the link for which is copied below, refers.

We believe there may have been some confusion as to the reason for Lim Wee Chai’s appointment to the Universiti Malaya Board.

In the interest of accuracy, we would like to clarify that Lim’s appointment was not in any way politically linked, which has been cited as the reason for the said termination.

Lim, an alumnus of Universiti Malaya, was nominated to this position by Arshad bin Ayub. It was a role he gladly accepted as it represented an opportunity to contribute positively to his alma mater and to society.

Lim considers it a privilege to have served on the University Malaya board for the past 3 years, for which he declined remuneration, as he considers this part of his service to the nation.

A letter dated August 1, 2018 clarifying this matter, has also been sent to Education Minister Maszlee Malik. – August 2, 2018.

  • The UM Biard has some very prominent people.. apart from Top Glove Chairman, there is also for example Dr Thillanathan - from the Gentings Group apart from Academic luminaries.. I guess they need these people who, through their respective organisations, contribute towards UM growth opportunItIes.
It is also interesting to note that UM has about 100+ acres of prime land just behind the UMSC, and across the road - ideal hotspots for property development!
