ANWAR Ibrahim was not in the best of health but for PKR supporters and voters in Sg Kandis, the de facto PKR leader is already the next prime minister.

Anwar, having just returned from Turkey after a hip and shoulder operation, made an appearance yesterday and for 17 minutes, gave the ceramah crowd what they wanted to hear.

He is slated to take over from Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who has indicated he would hand over the post two years after GE14.

“I feel that right now, Anwar will be able to come in to improve the government,” said Man, a Sg Kandis voter, on why he has full faith in the nation’s next prime minister.

Kai, another ceramah goer, said: “Of course, I want him to be prime minister in two years, everyone does”.

Anwar was in Sg Kandis last night to campaign for PKR candidate Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni in the Sg Kandis by-election on Saturday.

Anwar did not disappoint the 700-strong crowd, who came to hear him speak despite the rain.

Adun said: “I am here for Anwar, definitely”.

Supporters also said Anwar’s return can be a major boost to a Pakatan Harapan government still facing teething problems as it nears its 100 days in power.

“Right now, the government is not doing so great and I think Anwar can help,” said Kai.

The government has been criticised for failing to keep key pledges in its first 100 days and for delaying major pledges made in its election manifesto. – August 1, 2018.

  • Dr. Mahathir should still be around as a Senior advisory person in the Cabinet or Council of Eminent Persons if he steps down in 2020, if he agrees..
