INCUMBENT PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad is the latest party leader to back Rafizi Ramli for deputy president in the coming elections.
The Setiawangsa MP announced his decision to support Rafizi in a statement on his blog and also confirmed that he would contest a seat on the party’s central committee.
The former Selangor government exco said Anwar and Rafizi were the best leaders for PKR’s struggle to ensure good administration, fight corruption and ensure equitable economic development for Malaysians.
Rafizi yesterday unveiled the line-up of his backers who will be contesting key posts in the party elections from September 14 to October 7.
They are:
Vice-president candidates: Nurul Izzah Anwar (Permatang Pauh MP), William Leong (Selayang MP), Johari Abdul (Sungai Petani MP) and S. Kesavan (Sungai Siput MP).
Wanita chief: Fuziah Salleh, deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and Kuantan MP.
Wanita deputy chief: Rodziah Ismail, Selangor’s Batu Tiga assemblyman.
Youth chief: Akmal Nasir, Johor Baru MP.
He also announced central committee candidates who supported him:
S. Streram (former candidate for Rantau), Abdullah Sani (Kapar MP), Aminuddin Harun (Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar), Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh (Ledang MP), Dr Idris Ahmad (Ijok assemblyman), Wong Chen (Subang MP), Lee Chean Chung (Semambu assemblyman), June Leow (Hulu Selangor MP), R. Summugam (Bukit Selambau assemblyman), Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (Setiawangsa MP), Abdul Halim Hussain (Batu Maung assemblyman) and G. Manivanan (former candidate for Hutan Melintang).
Rafizi will face Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali, who is the incumbent deputy president, who has not announced if he will defend the post or go for the presidency against his mentor Anwar.
So far, Azmin only appears to have support from incumbent Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin and incumbent vice-president Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin. – July 30, 2018.
