Stop blaming BN and get to work, Khairy tells Pakatan

PAKATAN Harapan should stop blaming the previous Barisan Nasional (BN) administration for its failure to deliver its election promises, said Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin.

Khairy, who was in Johan Setia yesterday to campaign for BN’s Lokman Noor Adam in the Sungai Kandis by-election, said it was not possible to deny BN and Umno’s contributions to Malaysia during their 61-year reign.

“Umno and BN have made a lot of contributions (to the country). Don’t say you can’t make good on your promises because of BN or Umno’s faults.

“I have read many comments on social media of people (telling PH) to stop excusing itself by blaming Umno and BN. They must start governing. As the new government, it must get down to work,” he told some 200 people at a ceramah in Taman Setia, yesterday night.

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has said the new government needed more time to deliver the 10 promises it had pledged to fulfil in its first 100 days, due to the damage left behind by the BN, which lost federal power on May 9 for the first time since Merdeka.

In the recent Dewan Rakyat sitting, Mahathir said not all 10 promises in the PH manifesto could be delivered within 100 days as the government must follow the law and consult the relevant agencies to implement changes towards the fulfilment of its pledges.

He said PH had so far fulfilled two of the 10 pledges and was in the process of fulfilling six more.

“There are two we have not started work on yet. But we are committed to delivering the promises,” Dr Mahathir said.

Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the national debt was the reason for PH’s delay in making good its election primises.

Khairy, meanwhile, said the new PH government did not inherit a failed state, as proved by the positive ratings accorded to the Malaysian economy by major rating agencies, including the International Monetary Fund.

“As a member of the previous administration, it is unacceptable that they should say that we left behind a country or government that is on the verge of bankruptcy, – a failed state.

“Instead of a failed state, we handed down a good government. If there is a slight problem involving 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) and so forth, please investigate. But don’t talk as though Umno and BN did not contribute at all.

“We can see that today’s peace and development, the advancement of the Malays are because of Umno and BN.”

Khairy is among the BN heavyweights joining Lokman on his campaign trail. Former prime minister Najib Razak is another who has made an appeareance in Sungai Kandis.

Umno’s Lokman is in a three-way fight with PKR’s Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni and independent candidate K. Murthy.

The by-election was called following the death of the assemblyman Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei on July 2. – July 29, 2018.

  • Khairy, stop going back to your old self and bull crapping everywhere. The magnitude of damages by your beloved UmnoBN has indeed crippled tge country and I am very sure your hands are also soiled in it. Stop your two face changing attirude . It is sickening to see you behaving that unintelligently just to score some attentions. Grow up and be a matured responsible politician. You have to chart a new course for yourself now . Going back to the Umno style only attract disdain and reveal the incapibility to reform a middle way and be in sync to launch the aspirations of the rakyat desires. Why be a fool hardy hero and ridicule by both political divide. You are not clean as an Angel with the political baggagges trailing behind. Make amends and move with the Rakyat and put your intelligence to good use.

  • Malaysia with RM1 trillion debt not a "failed" state? Where were we going? Towards a RM3 trillion debt in the future? Did Najib not overstep his boundaries to impoverish Malaysia in his headlong gallop to develop the country? Bears thinking, doesn't it?..

  • You want the govt to borrow more money to fulfill their election promises fast? Tun has already asked Japan for a soft loan to help manage the huge debt left behind by Najib's apparent mismanagement of the economy after doubling-up as Finance Minister. Now the govt has a proper Finance Minister to show up the past mistakes & manage things better than before..
