LOKMAN Noor Adam, the Barisan Nasional candidate in the Sungai Kandis by-election, said he hopes the polls will be the start of cooperation between Umno and PAS.

He told reporters, after a walkabout in the constituency, that he personally wishes for the two parties to merge, or to be components in the same coalition.

He was commenting on a statement by Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman that the by-election is seen as a “testing ground” for possible cooperation between Umno and PAS.

It will be a three-way battle between Lokman, Pakatan Harapan’s Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni and independent candidate K. Murthy. Polling day has been set for August 4.

The by-election was called following the death of assemblyman Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei on July 2. – Bernama, July 27, 2018.
