THE Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) appointed by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government is more powerful than cabinet ministers themselves, said Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa.

The Ketereh MP said CEP is seen to be upstaging ministers in calling all the shots and have a free rein under Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s rule.

“Now, the CEP is usurping the power of the government. What is more shocking is that the CEP is more powerful than ministers,” Annuar Musa told the Dewan Rakyat today while debating the royal address.

He pointed out CEP chairman Daim Zainuddin’s recent trip to China to discuss infrastructure projects and the calling up of former Chief Justice Raus Sharif.

“This is a horrible precedent. Where CEP is more powerful than ministers. What more, the person who heads CEP has not a clean record himself,” Annuar said referring to Daim.

Meanwhile, Kinabatangan MP Bung Mokhtar interjected and claimed that he knew cabinet papers were sent to the CEP to be decided upon after the ministers meet.

“I also heard all the cabinet minutes are sent to the CEP, to be decided on what action to be taken next,” he said.

Annuar predicted that the PH government will not even last for 5 years as the coalition’s foundation was not strong.

“I do not know how long will this PH government last but I predict they will not last till 5 years,” he said.

Earlier today, Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin that CEP was making decisions for the government despite being “unelected and unaccountable”.

Singapore’s Straits Times today also reported concerns about the CEP and if it was diminishing the government’s role, quoting analysts and PH insiders. – July 24, 2018.

  • The CEP is doing an excellent job advising a government of fresh lawmakers in dealing with the mess created by the previous government filled by crooks. The crooks are just making noise to distract the current government from going after them. Hold steadfast PH, the Rakyat knows and supports the efforts taken to clean the country. If only the police can expedite the arrest of these hooligans of BN

  • Why is the CEP causing concerns among non Malaysian government people such as the opposition and even Singapore? We know the motives of both the opposition and Singapore. The opposition wants this government down and Singapore wants to take advantage with the water supply type of agreements. For once in our history our new PH government is very careful about using the country's resources. I would give our government full support to bring about the change they have promised. The new PH government is like an elephant on a journey, It should not be distracted by any dog that is barking.

  • Since when was Annuar Musa clean? KJ what about your bunch of un-elected and unaccountable 4th floor boys under Pak Lah? This PH government will not only last the next 5 years but will be re-elected in GE15. UMNO will not survive beyond the current parliamentary term. All that PH needs to do is to keep exposing the corruption, cheating and lies of UMNO to the Malays and how the immoral UMNO leaders have been misusing Islam to serve their own greed and hunger for power while neglecting the Malays and causing them to remain poor and insecure.

  • The CEP and PH government is charting the right course of this nation after what BN has prostituted the country from every possible corner. This is what democratic is all about, its called collective decision making with proper review for check and balance. The RAKYAT is not making a big fuss about it unlike the manner BN rule where you people after taking in your portion of the fortune don't even want to correct your pirate president to task. It goes without saying Spore is concern of us now simply because this government intends to bring back this country to its former status giving Spore a good run unlike under Jibby's playing golf here and there sucking other people's balls and enriching the ultimate few. Go pick another topic to fight as this one doesn't hold water.

  • CEP will come out with the report after 100 days. The report would be not good for the previous government. That's the reason suddenly foreign newspaper and BN attack the CEP.

CEP will leave in one month time. There's no reason to panic.
