THE Kota Kinabalu sessions court today sentenced a civil servant to 15 months’ imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to nine charges of corruption committed while serving at the Sabah Farmers Organisation Authority (LPP).
Judge Abu Bakar Manat meted out the sentence on Mohd Farid Abdul, 39, who pleaded guilty to falsifying six documents by changing the size of plough fields in order to claim a total excess of RM22,992 from the real value, admitting two false documents as valid and accepting a bribe worth RM1,500.
Mohd Farid admitted to committing the offences at the Sabah LLP Office while serving as an economic affairs assistant from May to October 2016.
Abu Bakar sentenced the accused to 12 months’ imprisonment for each charge of falsifying documents, admitting a false document as valid and accepting a bribe, and 15 months for a charge of admitting a false document as valid.
The judge ordered for the sentences to run concurrently from today.
In another case, a single mother was sentenced to seven days’ jail from today for offering RM1,200 to a police officer as an incentive not to take action against her for a drunk driving offence.
Wong Ming Cheng, 27, pleaded guilty to committing the offence at the Kota Kinabalu traffic police station between 4.40am and 4.50am on February 18 this year.
She was also fined RM10,000, in default of seven months’ jail.
