KUALA Lumpur City Hall will soon have a new set of advisory board members, said Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad.

He said that all the city’s MPs have been asked to submit their candidates for the position.

“They must be nominated based on their qualifications and capability.

“Appointments are not to be used as rewards for political reasons, as was done previously,” he said after meeting MPs from Kuala Lumpur at Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s headquarters today.

Last week, seven Barisan Nasional representatives on the advisory board quit voluntarily. They had been appointed at the beginning of last year.

Khalid previously said all BN political appointees were required to relinquish their positions immediately.

He said that the new members of the board were expected to be selected in two weeks.

“Once they have submitted their candidates, the ministry and FT secretary-general will vet them.

Khalid also said it would review the appointments of the Federal Territories Foundation board members.

On support letters issued by elected representatives, Khalid said this process would also be reviewed.

“We will go through the process as we need a clear policy.

“We will get it to the poor and those eligible who want to conduct business, and not because of political reasons.

“As for the ones that have been given out, they will be reviewed.” – July 20, 2018.
