BALAKONG assemblyman Ng Tien Chee was killed in an accident at Km11.7 of the Grand Saga Highway early today.

In the 12.30am incident, Ng, 40, died at the scene of serious head injuries.

Kajang police chief Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said Ng was on his way from Kuala Lumpur to Kajang.

He said it was believed that Ng, driving a Nissan X-Trail SUV, rammed into the back of a trailer.

Dzaffir said Ng’s body was sent to  Serdang Hospital for post-mortem.

Ng, also known as Eddie, was returning home after attending a dinner.

His death was confirmed by his official Facebook page which said he was a two-term assemblyman for Balakong and was also the Selangor DAP secretary.

Ng’s death would also mean another by-election in Selangor after Sg Kandis, whose assemblyman, Shuhaimie Shafiei, died of lymphoma cancer on July 2.

The Election Commission has set nomination for the Sg Kandis seat on Saturday while polling is on August 14.

In the 14th general election (GE14) on May 9, Ng defeated Barisan Nasional’s Lim Chin Wah and Mohamad Ibrahim Ghazali by 35,538 votes. – July 20, 2018.
