Azmin to contest PKR presidency?

MOHAMED Azmin Ali remains coy on his bid to run for the PKR presidency against his former boss, Anwar Ibrahim, who has stated his intentions to contest the post.

The PKR deputy president said he has yet to decide on the matter, and wants to focus on the current Parliament meeting.

“At some point, I will make a decision, before the (party) polls. For now, I want to focus on Parliament issues.

“That should be the priority, this is our first session. My duty and moral obligation is to prepare answers to questions,” he told reporters outside the Dewan Rakyat.

When pressed further, the economic affairs minister replied, “What do you suggest?”, and laughed when someone said, “Yes”.

PKR Women chief Zuraida Kamaruddin has voiced her support for Azmin to contest the party’s top post.

Asked about this, Azmin only said “thank you” to Zuraida.

PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar said she supports her father’s decision to contest the presidency.

“Anwar has made his intentions clear. We all know that he was denied his rights by false charges.

“Since then, there are those who want to see him regain his rightful position.

“I, too, want him to regain his rightful position in PKR,” she told reporters.

There have been posts circulating on social media claiming that Azmin and his team, which includes Zuraida, Selangor Menteri Besar Amiruddin Shahri, and ministers Baru Bian and Xavier Jeyakumar, will run in the party elections. – July 18, 2018.
