PUTRAJAYA district police chief Rosly Hassan has denied that items belonging to former prime minister Najib Razak were stolen from a storeroom in Seri Perdana.

He said no police report has been lodged on the matter.

“No police report has been lodged, and I have no knowledge of such claims,” he told The Malaysian Insight.

“If it were true, surely a report would have been lodged.”

Yesterday, former Langkawi Wanita Umno member Anina Saadudin, in a Facebook post, blamed Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad for the alleged theft.

She said the incident occurred because Dr Mahathir had prevented Najib from taking his personal belongings.

She also posted a photo of the allegedly ransacked storeroom.

Rosly questioned the authenticity of the photo and Anina’s credibility.

“Is the photo real? Why was no report lodged if she knew what had happened?

“This is not right. She should lodge a police report if she knew that a crime had taken place, not make the matter viral.”

Malaysiakini reported that a source close to Najib has confirmed the incident. It said the storeroom was broken into, and the photo uploaded by Anina is genuine.

Anina, who helped founded Bersatu, but has fallen out of favour with the party leadership, urged Dr Mahathir to ask federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Amar Singh Ishar Singh to investigate the alleged theft.

“See for yourself what has happened, Tun (Dr Mahathir). Because you did not allow Najib to take his personal items, thieves have entered and taken them.

“Why are you so cruel? Those were personal items.

“Is this how you treat a former prime minister? Is this the example you wish to set to the younger generation who voted for you?

“Please ask inspector ‘sahab’ to investigate this,” she said, referring to Amar Singh, who is Sikh.

Seri Perdana, the prime minister’s official residence, is currently vacant, as Dr Mahathir has chosen to stay at his private residence. – July 18, 2018.
