PAS will never unite with Umno but will work together with the opposition party on issues in Parliament.

Party president Abdul Hadi Awang insisted that both parties are not forming any special union but are working together on certain issues that benefit the people.

“We will work together with everybody for the good of all Malaysians. We will not merge with Umno,” he told reporters when met at the Parliament lobby.

Talk of a PAS-Umno merger has been ongoing speculation since before the May 9 elections in a bid for both Malay-based parties to counter Pakatan Harapan’s strength.

Umno under former president Najib Razak had also been at its friendliest ever with PAS.

Yesterday, PAS lawmakers alongside Barisan Nasional MPs had walked out of the Dewan Rakyat, protesting the appointment of speaker Mohd Arrif Md Yunos.

The Islamist party’s secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan also said the party recognised Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as opposition leader. – July 17, 2018.
