A DAP man who allegedly molested a part-time waitress and college student recently in Penang will be charged tomorrow, police say.

Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Omar said the 50-year-old village security and development committee chairman would be charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code for assault or use of criminal force on a person with intent to outrage modesty.

The suspect, who was formerly an aide to a DAP assemblyman and a city councillor, allegedly sexually assaulted the waitress on July 6 in the car park of an entertainment outlet on Lebuh Pantai, George Town.

In the late night incident, the man allegedly hugged, kissed her several times on the mouth, tried to make her perform oral sex on him, and molested her. He also allegedly offered her money to spend the night with him.

The waitress, a 21-year-old college student, lodged a police report some two hours later in the wee hours of July 7, identifying her attacker by name.

In a press conference last Friday, she told media that the suspect had left his name card at the outlet.

She also reportedly said he had tried to pay her off to settle the matter quietly through a third party.

The suspect was arrested last Thursday and was remanded for investigation until his release on Saturday. – July 17, 2017.
