FORMER Umno president Najib Razak wants Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin to explain to the party leadership why he did not join other opposition lawmakers in walking out of Parliament today in protest of the government’s choice of speaker.
Khairy, along with former foreign minister Anifah Aman and Labuan MP Rozman Isli, were the only three lawmakers from Umno who did not join in the protest.
Najib said it is left to the party leadership to decide if it wanted to call up the three leaders for questioning.
“That was the party decision (to walk out). I leave it to the party to whatever decision, whatever views.
“Probably they should explain to some extent why they did what they did,” Najib told reporters when met at the Parliament lobby today.
Barisan Nasional and PAS lawmakers left the Dewan earlier today after they did not agree with the procedure to name Mohd Ariff Md Yusof as Dewan Rakyat speaker.
Najib insisted that upon taking over Putrajaya, Pakatan Harapan must follow rules and regulations to keep things in order.
“On the first day of Parliament, we need to see clearly without a doubt that the rules and regulations of the Dewan should be followed and adhered.
“This is because this House has been elected by the people and should serve them.”
Khairy had said he did not exit the Dewan with the other opposition MPs as he did not want to disrespect the august house. – July 16, 2018.
