THE Dewan Rakyat’s deputy speakers for this term will be DAP’s Nga Kor Ming (Teluk Intan) and PKR’s Mohd Rashid Hasnon (Batu Pahat).

The names were suggested by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad as Pakatan Harapan’s choices today.

Opposition leader Ahmad Zahid Hamidi nominated Beluran MP Ronald Kiandee, who was formerly a deputy speaker when Barisan Nasional was in power.

Speaker Mohd Ariff Md Yusof ruled that only two people can be deputy speakers, and put the matter to the vote.

Rashid polled 171 votes while Nga received 124 votes. Kiandee picked up 93 votes. – July 16, 2018.
