FORMER prime minister Najib Razak arrived at Parliament today for its first session following the historic GE14, which now sees Barisan Nasional sitting on the opposition bench.

Dressed in a black baju Melayu, the Pekan MP arrived at the Dewan Rakyat lobby at 9.40am together with other Umno leaders such Kinabatangan MP Bung Moktar Radin and Jeli MP Mustafa Mohamed.

Other MPs who arrived after Najib include Umno president and Bagan Datuk MP Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin.

By convention, the first seat in the government bloc is taken by the prime minister as the head of the government.

The rest of the cabinet members will take up other seats with those holding key portfolios such as home, finance, economic affairs, and defence seated at the front row.

In the opposition bloc, seating is allocated according to the party with the largest number of MPs, followed by the smaller parties.

Following the May 9 elections and ensuing defections, the government under Pakatan Harapan has 116 lawmakers and its Sabah ally, Warisan, 8 MPs. BN has 54, Gabungan Parti Sarawak 19, and PAS 18. The remaining are smaller Sabah parties and independents. – July 16, 2018.
