FORMER myPPP president M. Kayveas is facing questions about power abuse over property purchases as party leaders lodge reports and ask the police to investigate.

MyPPP youth secretary Jayaselan Rajoo lodged two reports at the Sentul police station last week, urging  an investigation into Kayveas’ alleged abuse of power as party president to raise money to fund dozens of purchases worth RM28 million.

The properties were allegedly in Malaysia, Singapore and the United Kingdom.

The reports were based on eight sets of PDFs now circulating on WhatsApp, which contained hundreds of documents on the transactions, the earliest dating back to 2011.

Responding to the police reports, Kayveas told The Malaysian Insight that he has lodged police reports of his own on the matter.

“I have made 15 police reports and was told next week, action will be taken against the perpetrators,” Kayveas said.

Jayaselan said he wanted police to find out how Kayveas raised funds to make those purchases, whether he had abused his position or was engaged in corruption.

He called on individuals and a law firm mentioned in the WhatsApp messages to be investigated as to their alleged involvement in the transactions.

In the report, Jayaselan also urged police to investigate allegations that Kayveas has been involved in the selling of honorific titles.

The documents sighted by The Malaysian Insight indicated that cheques were issued in the name of a Seremban-based law firm, with letters instructing the firm to make the purchases.

Jayaselan said party members began receiving the WhatsApp messages on Thursday night.

“As youth secretary, I lodged the reports for police to investigate the documents that I received,” he told The Malaysian Insight.

Jayaselan said he did not know the source of the WhatsApp messages but they painted Kayveas in bad light.

“I cannot verify whether it is true or not, or whether the properties exist. Whatever the case may be, it is up to the police to investigate.”

Another senior party member, who declined to be named, said members who received the messages were “shocked and flabbergasted”.

“It is best that the police do the investigation to find out whether the contents of the messages are true,” he said.

Asked whether Kayveas has been confronted with the allegations, the senior party member said the members are deciding the next course of action.

MyPPP, a Barisan Nasional component party, was plunged into internal conflict after Kayveas spoke out against the coalition when he was not given the Cameron Highlands seat to contest in the 14th general election.

Following this, the party sacked Kayveas in April as the president.

Kayveas, however, later claimed that his sacking ran contrary to myPPP’s constitution which stated that the president can only be replaced by holding a general assembly or extraordinary general assembly. – July 16, 2018.
