Dr Mahathir confirms Ariff will be new Dewan Rakyat speaker

PRIME Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad today confirmed that former Court of Appeal judge Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof will be the new Dewan Rakyat speaker.

“He is a former judge. Yes, it is Mohamad Ariff,” Dr Mahathir briefly told reporters after a meeting with Sarawak officials today.

Dr Mahathir is on a two-day trip to Sarawak, his first since becoming prime minister following the 14th general election.

This morning, he attended a closed-door briefing on the state’s development at Wisma Bapa Malaysia.

The briefing was given by State Secretary Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani, and attended by Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg. – July 15, 2018.
