ON his 93rd birthday, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had many well-wishers, but none from anyone as special as his daughter, Marina Mahathir.

The prominent activist took to social media to heap praises for her father after he took Malaysia by storm in leading Pakatan Harapan to its maiden election victory.

“Nobody can fully know what it took to get back in the game, go out there and fight and then roll your sleeves up to work to save our beloved Malaysia,” she said on Facebook.

Marina said that despite his age, Dr Mahathir was still keeping up with the times and listening to people far younger than him.

“I’m proud of many things you’ve achieved but nothing has made me prouder than seeing you still willing to listen and learn from your new colleagues,” she said.

Marina’s post featured two pictures of Dr Mahathir smiling while leaning on a pillar, which was taken by her husband, prominent photographer Tara Sosrowardoyo.

Dr Mahathir was named the oldest prime minister after leading PH to a landslide victory in the polls on May 9.

He is also the only Malaysian to be prime minister twice in Malaysia’s 60-year history.

Dr Mahathir, who is also a medical doctor, previously served as prime minister for 22 years from 1981 to 2003 before coming out of retirement some 15 years later to win back the top job.

On Instagram, Dr Mahathir’s son, Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir, shared a short message for his father accompanied by a video of his parents.

“Happy Birthday Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad” he wrote in the caption of a picture of Dr Mahathir and his wife, Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, laughing together, using the hashtag, “#couplegoals”. – July 10, 2018

  • If not for Dr Mahathir holding the forth and the PH coalition together, BN just could not have been defeated. I guess BN clearly underestimated this grand old man's capabilities. Big mistake they made that ultimately benefited the rakyat.
