NEWLY appointed Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mohamed Hanipa Maidin is in stable condition.

Deputy Health Minister Dr Lee Boon Chye told Bernama Hanipa is being held at the Putrajaya Hospital for a 24-hour observation.

“They are determining what happened to him,” he was quoted as saying.

Hanipa’s media officer Anas As-Said Zaharuddin said that his boss was conscious and asked the public not to speculate on the deputy minister’s health.

The Sepang MP from Amanah fainted and fell off the stage just minutes into Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s monthly address at Putrajaya this morning.

A lawyer by training, Hanipa, 48, was sworn in last week as the de facto law deputy minister.

Hanipa had suffered a stroke in Parliament in April 2016. Several MPs found Hanipa slumped over his table and frothing at the mouth in the Dewan Rakyat.

He was rushed to the National Heart Institute before being transferred to Hospital Kuala Lumpur, where he underwent a two-hour surgery for a brain haemorrhage.

Hanipa returned to parliamentary duty in October 2016, where he began using a cane.
