PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will make way for her husband, Anwar Ibrahim, if he goes for the president’s post in the upcoming party polls.

Wan Azizah said PKR had yet to decide whether Anwar should continue being its de facto leader.

“I won’t contest (for president) if he does,” she said.

However, she said she would defend her president post if Anwar continues as de facto leader.

PKR saw its membership surge by 60% after Pakatan Harapan won the 14th general election on May 9.

It’s secretary-general, Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, said more than 300,000 people joined the party between May 9 and June 26.

Some 800,000 members will be voting in the party elections slated for between August and September.

Saifuddin said yesterday that the party was also testing its e-voting system.

Candidates must pay between RM500 and RM25,000 to contest in the party polls.

A candidate must pay RM25,000 to vie for president, deputy president (RM20,000), vice-president (RM10,000), central committee member (RM5,000), branch chief (RM3,000) and branch committee member (RM500). – July 8, 2018.
