THE new government will nail down the culprits responsible for Teoh Beng Hock’s tragic death, Lim Guan Eng promised Teoh’s family at a memorial today.

The DAP secretary-general said that Teoh may have died nine years ago but his memory will live on and justice will be served for him and his family.

“He helped play a part in bringing about new Malaysia. (We need) to identify the culprits and his real cause of death to prevent a repeat of (such tragedy).

We won’t let the murderers get away,” the finance minister said during Teoh’s memorial ceremony at Nirvana Memorial Park in Semenyih this morning.

On July 16, 2009, Teoh, 30, was found dead on the fifth floor of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office in Selangor while he was in their custody.

Teoh, then political secretary to former Selangor executive councilor Ean Yong Hian Wah, was questioned for 11 hours as a witness in a case involving the alleged abuse of state allocations.

The cabinet announced it would reopen investigations into Teoh’s case on June 20.

About 100 people attended the memorial.

Present were Teoh’s family and 9-year-old son, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang (Iskandar Puteri MP), Tan Kok Wai (Cheras MP), Kulai MP Teo Nie Cheng, Ean Yong and former Selangor exco Ronnie Liu.

Kit Siang said the new Pakatan Harapan government must get to the bottom of not just Teoh’s death, but other mysterious deaths in police and MACC custody, such as Customs officer Ahmad Sarbani Mohamed and A. Kugan.

Less than two years after Teoh’s death, Sarbani was found dead on the first floor of the MACC building in Kuala Lumpur on April 6, 2011. Kugan, detained as a car theft suspect, died in police custody in 2009.

Defence Minister and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, also known as Mat Sabu, who arrived later, echoed Kit Siang’s sentiments.

“There are also the mysterious disappearances of other individuals, like Amri Che Mat and Pastor Raymond Koh.

These are the high-profile cases. We don’t know how many cases go unnoticed.

“Investigations must continue. The family deserves justice and closure,” said Mat Sabu, who attends Teoh’s memorial every year. – July 8, 2018.

  • Justice for TBH is long overdue but it will come. Karma will search out those directly and indirectly responsible.

  • I'm all for justice for unsolved murders, but why is the Ministers of Finance and Defence making this statement? Shouldn't it be the Home Minister, because if it came from him, it will (at least) appear to carry more weight and determination.

  • Power to you Guan Eng, Kit Siang, Mat Sabu, Tricia Yeoh, Gobind Singh and Beng Hock's family.

The key is disruptive-reversal. What must we do so that those who carried out their wretched intention to kill Teo Beng Hock in a nyaman state would not have or do so?

"Nyaman" is the cosy sapience state in Central Javanese kampungs. The invisible common lae code is #tentera-tenteram.
