PREACHER Zakir Naik will not be deported as long as he does not cause any trouble in Malaysia, Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today.

The prime minister’s statement on the Indian national follows several news reports from India that Zakir will be sent back to face charges of supporting terrorism.

Dr Mahathir said since Zakir has a Malaysian permanent residency, he will be allowed to stay.

“As long as he is not creating any problem, we will not deport him. He has been given a permanent residence,” Dr Mahathir said in a press conference today.

An Indian news report said the controversial preacher was expected to be deported soon.

Zakir left India in 2016 and has been living in Putrajaya since then despite protests from local Indians.

He was given permanent residency in Malaysia and holds the same status in Saudi Arabia.

Former prime minister Najib Razak had welcomed Zakir and current Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has close ties to him.

The Malay political party was close to Zakir, a popular English-speaking preacher among local Muslims, and usually prays at the main mosque in Putrajaya. – July 6, 2018.

  • The rule of law applies. If an extradition treaty between India and Malaysia is in place, if the Indian police file an extradition order, if it can be shown he obtained PR to evade his countrys law, then he must be returned to India. It has nothing to do with if he causes trouble or not!

  • PM Mahatir --- you are deadly wrong. Here we are not disputing on the facts of religious kinship, racism or a hard core bigotry actions. Looking back it seems you are contradicting yourself when it comes to the country in danger of being under the influence of shit stirrer!!!!!!!!!. You were dead set against Hadi Awang on his "Amanat" as the sole cause for the Memali incidents alluding that his compelling fatwa instigated the mayhem. Why are you now being so open to Zakir Naik hate speeches and onslaught of insults against other religious practises. Are you fearful of him due to his popularity in Putra Jaya???? . Recently you have articulated so commendably with positive intent to educate the young generation in looking far beyond race which in a way will embody the tolerances of accepting other's faith. Ain't you afraid that Zakir Naik belligerent tone of condemning others not of the same faith will trample and dampen off your legacy in a harmonious and prosperous Rakyat for your new found New Malaysia . I believe that the New Malaysia is very much in the infancy stage and needs all your attention and leadership to ensure success. Let not a psycothic religious freak to de-chart the course. It is imperative that he should be ostracized and ship out without a minute to spare. PR is awarded to reward an immigrants who are able to contribute immensely to the country and it is also the country prerogative to revoke if there is any indication of undesireable activity and warrant a shipment out. Do we really need a petition to be action oriented.?????. If it is true that India has requested for him to be extradited why are we not in the rule of law as per your favourite practises.

  • Tun M is buying trouble. Najib and Zahid supported the devil and in big shit now. Tun supporting the Devil now. This Shows downfall of Mahadir is very near.
Maybe he wants to know all about Zahid as Nai is close with him. Once he get want he wanted he will throw him out.
How about wanted Malaysians like Jamal who never given trouble to Indonesia. They too could have kept him. Something is wrong somewhere. Is Islamisation getting stronger in Malaysia with Anwars long time wishes?

  • Well this may invite a tit for tat in allowing Zakir Naik's stay in Malaysia; Malaysia may experience the same reception from other countries when they request extradition of Malaysian criminals in other countries.

  • Maybe Tun M is just biding his time, he has a lot on his mind nowadays, and may not also want to move too quickly & upset any group. He will move at a more opportune moment possibly. In the meantime WATCH is the name of the game, to ensure no laws are broken..

  • Asking PAS and UMNO to unite against the infidels in this country is seditious if not trouble.

  • When did UMNO not shout "Malayu! Malayu!" when Zakir Naik preaches his controversial English sermons in our mosques and schools?

  • What about the rule of law? I understand there was a request from India authorities to extradite him. Unless there was no such request from India?
