A HIGH Court judge overseeing former prime minister Najib Razak’s case is the brother of an Umno Pahang state executive council member, The Star Online reported today, adding that Attorney-General Tommy Thomas was unaware of this fact.

The judge, Mohd Sofian Abd Razak, is the younger brother of Umno Benta state assemblyman Mohd Soffi Abd Razak, the report said.

On this link, Thomas reportedly said that: “This is the first time I have heard about this.”

Both Soffi and Sofian received the Seri Indera Mahkota Pahang award from Sultan Ahmad Shah Sultan Abu Bakar in 2012.

Soffi, 61, is chairman of the Pahang’s Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry committee. He retained his Benta state seat in the 14th general election by a 340-vote majority.

Sofian, 57, was appointed a judicial commissioner in 2005 before being appointed a High Court judge in 2007.

Najib was yesterday charged with misusing his position as a government official to receive a RM42 million bribe as inducement to provide a sovereign guarantee on behalf of the Malaysian government for a RM4 billion loan from the Retirement Fund Inc (KWAP) to SRC International Sdn Bhd.

He pleaded not guilty when Sofian read the charges out to him. He also set the bail at RM1 million with two sureties and ordered Najib to surrender both his civilian and diplomatic passports to the court. – July 5, 2018.

  • Thank you for pointing this out to the people. The judge has been compromised with his family ties to the supporter of the defendant.

  • The prosecution must demand that this judge recuse himself from all future hearing of these cases.

  • Please ask the judge to recuse himself. For justice to be served, a judge must be seen unconnected at all with Umno or PH. Justice must be seen done

  • So can the judge recuse himself or to be forcibly removed by rakyat. No wonder the bail is set at a low tier level and gag order for preferential treatment of the VVIP criminal. It makes amockery of the "rule of law". where is the expected vocal voice of Rafizi, Siti Kassim and the bar council. More interested in trivial and mundane matters.
